This weekend was a busy one for the local police in Palma. Three drivers were arrested for various traffic offences.

The first, in the early hours of Saturday morning, involved a 28-year-old Briton who jumped a red light along Avenida Argentina. A patrol car was soon in hot pursuit as the driver accelerated in an attempt to give the police the slip. The car chase continued along the Paseo Mallorca and Catalunya, Murillo and Joan Crespi streets. Eventually, the driver crashed into a number of large rubbish containers along Joan Miro. However, by the time officers reached the car, the driver had vanished, leaving 430 euros in cash and  a pair of flip-flops.

An hour-and-a-half later though, an eyewitness to the crash spotted the Briton at a bus stop in Plaça d’Espanya, informed the police and he was duly arrested. The other two drivers were stopped and arrested for drunk driving.
