King Felipe and Queen Letizia greeted some 450 people to Sunday evening's reception at the Almudaina Palace, at which were representatives from Balearic political life as well as from the security forces and the worlds of culture, sport, science and business.

The reception was established in 2014 during the first royal summer vacation following the abdication of Juan Carlos, and there were fifty more people in attendance than last year. The Balearic political scene was represented by President Armengol, the presidents of the islands' councils, including Miquel Ensenyat of the Council of Majorca, and the mayor of Palma, José Hila. Representatives from Més and Podemos had declined invitations, but Ensenyat, in his capacity as president, did attend as did the Podemos president (speaker) of the Balearic parliament, Xelo Huertas.

There were also, and for the first time, representatives from all the professional institutes in the Balearics and all religious denominations as well winners of the Ramon Llull prizes. Other guests included: the president of the Majorca Daily Bulletin, Carmen Serra; Jesus Boyero, director of advertising wing GBM; the managing editor of the Majorca Daily Bulletin, Jason Moore; the British Consul-General in Barcelona and so with responsibility for the Balearics, Lloyd Milen; and William Graves, son of writer Robert Graves.

Prior to receiving the invited guests, the King and Queen took time to meet members of the public who had gathered in great number to applaud and cheer the royal couple.
