Calvia police explained yesterday that they arrested a man who assaulted Newcastle United footballer Ciaran Clark in a Magalluf bar last Saturday.
The 28-year-old defender, who is also a Republic of Ireland international, was in Crystal's bar on Punta Ballena. Around two in the morning, he got into an argument on the dance floor with an individual said to be a "foreigner", of large size and taller than the 6ft 2inch footballer. Clark was hit during this encounter, and the other person left, only to return and, without saying anything, punch Clark in the mouth. He was knocked out and had to be taken to Son Espases Hospital.
The police arrived and arrested the assailant. He appeared in court on Monday and was released on charges. He claimed that the victim was not Ciaran Clark.

You can't beat old news. I read this in the Newcatle Evening Chronicle before I started my holiday in Crete (smashing thanks) nearly 2 weeks ago. They also named the thug who belted him.
Well done to the police but why can't they arrest the drug dealers/prostitutes/muggers and the teen-age thugs attacking tourists as quickly.?
