The local ministry for health said that tap water in some areas of the island was not up to standard and it shouldn´t be drank or used for cooking.

We have a Berkey water filter. No problem.
After 30 years living on the eastern side of the island, only known one source (Concelacion) where the tap water was drinkable, What is new?
Even if the water in your area is supposed to be ok I'd check what water containers your building has as a lot of them are made of asbestos. I certainly wouldn't drink water from that!
None of the people I know use the water supplied all have special filter systems !
