Property searched in Mallorca money laundering operation

On Friday, police from Germany's Bundeskriminalamt supported a Guardia Civil operation against money laundering that was centred on a property in Cala Ratjada.

The main target of this operation is said to be a German businessman living in Mallorca who has allegedly been buying and selling properties for years in order to launder money. He was under investigation for tax evasion in Germany and it was discovered that he had bought various properties in Mallorca.

Other searches were carried out at homes, hotels and offices, and there was a simultaneous police operation in Germany.

Italian Carabinieri investigators are also understood to have travelled to Mallorca, an indication of the international nature of an apparent criminal organisation.
