Lago Júnior celebrates the first goal against Elche. | @LaLiga

Real Mallorca 2 - Elche 1

Heading towards the dying embers of the season, would Mallorca's tenuous hold on the second division be thrown to the fires, or would they rise from the potential ashes of a rubbish season? Free entrance to the faithful - make it free and some three to four thousand more than usual will turn up - and they witnessed a progressive Mallorca go ahead halfway through the first period through Lago Júnior. Mallorca were dominant.

Second half, and Mallorca maintained their ascendancy, albeit there was a lack of real scoring opportunities. Elche were even less of a threat. Just over ten minutes left and Mallorca got a justified second: Roigé from a Mallorca corner. Out of more or less nowhere, Vergos got one back for Elche on full-time, but all was good for Mallorca.

Free house for the next match. Maybe they should make every home game free. Mallorca saved from the drop? No. Tomorrow's matches on what is "English week" (midweek games) will be important: Ponferradina against all but relegated Albacate and the six-pointer between Almeria and Llagostera.
