Alexander Malter was born in Moscow in 1946.

He studied at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory, graduated in 1969 and moved to Germany in 1991. Among praise that he was to receive was that of the Estonian minimalist composer Arvo Pärt. One of his most famous recordings was of Pärt's Für Alina and Spiegel im Spiegel for the Munich ECM label.

He has close ties with three orchestras in Berlin - the Berlin Philharmonic, the Deutsche Oper and the Radio Berlin Symphony Orchestra. His repertoire is broad, as his recordings indicate. As well as Pärt, these include Bach and Beethoven among others.

The artistic director of the Puerto Soller Classical Music Festival, he concludes the festival with a solo concert. The programme will be works by Mozart, Rachmaninoff, Schubert and, to end, Chopin's Fantasia-Impromptu, two Nocturnes and two Preludes.
