Smoking guitars, levitating drum kits, makeup and costumes in the style of comic-book characters; they were shocking, they were shock rock, they were Kiss, one of the most successful and influential rock bands ever.
The on-stage theatricals would have only got them so far if the New York four-piece hadn't also comprised excellent musicians. But it has to be said that Kiss were a product of brilliant branding, a tribute to how to market a rock band.
And tributes are paid to them, they allowing their imitators to indulge in all the fantasy that soon surrounded Kiss after they were formed in 1973. In 2017, Seba Gava (rhythm guitar, vocals), Pablo Della Santa (lead guitar), Jorge Noceti (bass) and Cristian Ibarra (drums) created Kiss Experience, and they are in Palma this weekend.
