Jazz trumpeter and bandleader Dizzy Gillespie died on January 6, 1993.

This is one reason why the Palma Jazz Festival in this year honouring him - one of the greats of the jazz world. Another is that he headlined the very first festival back in 1981.

Guitarist Antoni Miranda is a leading figure in Mallorca’s jazz world. The concert remembering Dizzy Gillespie is his personal vision, and he has put together the Gillespie Big Band for the occasion and put his own personal stamp on the trumpeter’s original composition.

The concert goes under the title of ‘A Night in Tunisia’, which Gillespie wrote at the start of the 1940s and became a jazz standard. He once said of it that he had called the tune ‘Interlude’ but then “some genius” decided to call it ‘A Night in Tunisia’.
