Sophie Auster came to music almost by accident.
She had studied music, and in 2003, when she was sixteen, she collaborated with Brooklyn-based musicians on a project that hadn't been intended for wide public consumption. It was picked up by a French label and had significant success. By 2006 she was on the cover of the Spanish version of Rolling Stone magazine.
After graduating in 2010, she fully embarked upon her musical and acting careers more seriously. A 2015 album drew rave reviews, and in 2017 she was Cosmopolitan in Spain's singer of the year.
Hard to categorise, her powerful voice fills her songs with tinges of folk, pop and jazz. There is a hint of Tracey Thorn of Everything But The Girl and indeed of that group's eclectic output. And she has since been on the cover of many other magazines. As might be gathered, she is particularly popular in Spain.
