The Alternatilla All-Woman Jazz Band was formed for the Alternatilla Jazz Festival in Mallorca in autumn 2021.
The festival, an annual event, showcases musicians from an ‘invited’ country each year. With this in mind and also to highlight the growing presence of women in the world of jazz, the six-piece band was put together.
They are: Kika Sprangers (sax, the Netherlands); Cecilie Grundt (sax, Norway); Aga Derlak (piano, Poland); Marta Garrett (vocals, Portugal); Blanca Barranco (double bass, Spain); and Nailé Sosa (drums, Cuba).
Individually, they all have their own projects, one of these being the Aga Derlak Trio, of which it has been said that a “fiery chemistry of music and sense of drama will take them far”.
The all-woman band is the closing act for this year’s Alcudia Jazz Festival.
