At the age of eight, violinist Vasko Vassilev gave his first concert and released his first record with the Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra.
That was in 1979. In 1994, he joined the Royal Opera House in London as its youngest ever concertmaster. Eleven years later, he made his conducting debut at the Royal Albert Hall. A few weeks ago, he was the leader of the Coronation Orchestra - for the Coronation service for King Charles and The Queen Consort. He said that he was “humbled” to have had the honour. As a naturalised British citizen, he was especially proud. Vassilev has worked with any number of leading musicians from different genres - Sting is one of them. From the classical world, there has been Vicent Balaguer, also a violinist and who was last August named as the new director of the celebrated Unió Musical de Lliria in Valencia.
Accompanied by Miquel Estelrich Serralta on piano, Vassilev and Balaguer are teaming up once more. They will be performing at what will be an absolute highlight of Mallorca’s entire fiestas’ season.
