Iván Martín is a leading pianist and conductor from Gran Canaria.

He has performed with numerous orchestras in Spain and across the globe - from Europe to the US, South America, China and Vietnam.

In a recent interview, he gave an insight into pianists' relationship with Chopin. "It is very close. His is such excellent music, so well written and with so much of his personality."

He explains that Chopin didn't have a piano teacher and so from a very young age he developed a highly personal way of writing. His first teacher was in fact a violinist, who instilled in him a love for Bach and Mozart. But the first source of his inspiration was the voice.

This personality is conveyed by his piano concertos, and Iván Martín will be performing the second concerto with the Balearic Symphony Orchestra.

The programme will also comprise Dvorak's New World Symphony and a selection from Microsymphony by Mallorcan composer Miquel Àngel Aguiló.
