THERE is light at the end of the tunnel and to some extent the upbeat forecasts given by the tour firms and the Balearic government could be right. I have my very own barometer which registers the state of the local tourist industry! On our website we ask online readers abroad when they are coming to the island and if they would like to receive the What´s On information for that period. Last year it proved a huge success with thousands of tourists receiving What´s On information from us.

Over the last few weeks we have been inundated with requests for information for this summer proving that tourists have already booked their holidays and are looking forward to their break in the Balearic sun.

There is a greater feel of optimism around the Balearics and the moment which points to the possibility that the worst of the recession may be over. Now, all Majorca needs is a summer season of great weather and no industrial disputes. Also, the pound sterling must continue its recent rally against the euro. The Balearics needs a good summer season so that it can finally turn the corner. But a note of caution. The poor service and inflated prices of the past need to be forgotten and tourists welcomed with open arms. That is the way forward.
