...for the success of President Sarkozy's visit to London on Friday -- primarily to mark the 70th anniversary of General de Gaulle's BBC-broadcast rallying cry to the defeated French people to keep the flame of resistance burning -- but also, no doubt, to take the opportunity of establishing closer links with David Cameron than he had with Gordon Brown. Britain and France have more in common than it sometimes appears and without any need for talk of a new entente cordiale there are many areas in which close co-operation would be mutually beneficial.
