Jointly they have given an appalling impression of how one of Britain's biggest companies goes about its business. The Gulf of Mexico oil-slick is disastrous, of course, but it has been made very much worse by the failure to communicate effectively with the American government and the people whose lives have directly been affected by the deadly spread of the oil -- those very people described in a ghastly gaffe by Chairman Carl-Henri Svanberg as “the small people”.
