W E all know that the Ministry for Tourism, like the Balearic government in general, has been left straddled with massive debts by the previous left-wing administration but there are opportunities which should not be ignored. Reports that thousands of Britons are looking to grab a European holiday at the start of next summer to avoid London and the Olympic Games should surely be something the Balearics ought to be trying to lock on to now.

Unlike the World Cup which pulls in any one who loves the “beautiful game”, the Olympics attract a different type of sports fan and by the looks of the latest reports, most Britons are more concerned with getting away from the games than going to them.

So, Majorca, which has already been singled out as one of the potential benefactors of the Olympic and London boycott by some tour firms, could be the big winner providing it gets thinking and planning now. Oh, and hoteliers, do not put your prices up!
