FOR the state of affairs in Britain whereby laws and their interpretation can lead to a situation where some 500 “travellers” face eviction from homes they have occupied for ten years and of which many are permanent structures. For the moment the focus is Basildon in Essex where a large site is said to be illegal but the truth is that in many parts of Europe it is becoming increasingly difficult for “travellers” either to follow their traditional way of life or to adopt a more settled style. They are not wanted.
