Dear Sir,
You commented on the cost of the UK Olympics jumping from 2.5 to 9 billion. It is normal. The true costs probably didn’t jump so much as stay hidden/censored at the “point of sale” when bidding before the IOC. It happened in my own experience in the North Sea Oil industry when a 2000 million dollar project meticulously costed was arbitrarily marked down to 1500 to ensure the partners gave their go ahead and the Operating Company got the kudos. As you may imagine the actual cost hit the higher level.

Russian belittlement of Britain
Dear Sir,
Has no one pointed out to the ignorant Russian MP who denigrated Britain during the G20 summit at St. Petersburg last week, that the small island he sneeringly belittled, was, for over 150 years the greatest manufacturing and exporter throughout the earth, when Russia was still a feudal nation until the 1850’s? That two World Wars in which we played a major role, helped to impoverish us, and led to a voluntary abdication of the Empire, but still maintains close links within a unique British Commonwealth, while Russia still oppresses the Nation of Chechnya, pursuing a policy of Genocide there, one of the main reasons for their support of a similar regime in Syria. We may be a small island, but it is still a creative nation that will still maintain its global influence.
Yours sincerely,
Phil Green
