DEAR SIR

CAR HIRE
WE are regular visitors to Majorca and have been coming for more than 20 years. We are about to return for the 3rd time this year.
Can anyone explain to me how the car hire companies at the airport are allowed to charge for full tanks of fuel and not refund any unused on return.

It was a lot easier and cheaper when the cars were sent out either empty or full and returned in the same condition.

I would hazard a guess that the companies are making a small fortune as some people will only use half or less of the pre purchased fuel and I would also guess the hire companies don't declare this profit to the tax system.

Part of our holiday is having the use of a car to get about the Island and we would certainly hire from a company that doesn't use the prepay system give the choice.

I would also comment on the damage the hoteliers are doing to tourism by announcing that they intend to close early before the end of the season and lay off staff.

This is the last thing prospective holiday makers want to hear as there is nothing more sad than coming to a shut down resort when nothing is happening.

Everyone knows there is a lot of choice of alternate destinations for holidays so I suggest the hotels don't shoot themselves in the foot over the early closures.
