Dear Sir,

IT is hardly surprising that so many of the local politicos and their underlings, who have direct access to the taxpayers' coffers, are dipping their snouts in the trough and their trotters in the till as there is obviously an almost complete lack of fiscal control.

The latest case involving Antonia Ordinas and about 2 million euros gone missing just about sums it up.
This fiscal shambles is patently true as it appears that not only did she run up an expenses bill on her trip to China to the tune of around 14'000 euros (paid out of taxpayers' money) including personal trinkets, on inspection of the receipts clipped to her exes. sheet they appear to have been “tuned up” by her by adding a few zeros or moving the decimal point in the bills claimed! However I would suggest that the real problem lies even deeper. If these people, such as Ordinas don't have the nous to massage expense sheets or spirit the swag away to the Caymans or wherever but chose to bury 200'000 euros in a biscuit tin in her garden as has been discovered surely the basic question that must be asked is, how the hell did such an ignoramus get into such a position and further, how brainless were her superiors in putting her there?

Dear Sir,

I have been a British resident in Majorca for 15 years. Recently I have been proud that a Briton was going to buy Real Mallorca and invest in the club. That is until today (Monday, 6th October), when I read in the Spanish press that Paul Davidson intends to open a large plant on this island recycling plastic rubbish. Recycling plastic rubbish causes pollution. It is one thing to recycle the plastic waste produced locally, but it is another to import plastic rubbish for a large recycling operation. This would be bad for the health of everyone who lives in Majorca, especially the children, would damage the environment and prejudice tourism.

I have a question for Mr. Davidson. Why do you want to open a plastic waste recycling plant here, where you will have the increased costs of shipping the plastic rubbish to Majorca and then the costs of shipping the recycled products out of the island, instead of opening it in Great Britain or Sharjah, the country of your business partner, Sheik Faisal Bin Khalid Mohammed Al Qassami? Is it because neither country wants this type of industry on its soil? I am sure that everyone who loves Majorca, both Spaniards, foreign residents and tourists, people of all political persuasions and backgrounds will unite to put a stop to this outrage even before Mr. Davidson can start it.

Yours sincerely, Dr. Lawrence Renaudon Smith,

Palma
