BY Jason Moore WELL, it was rather a poor week for English sport, to say the least! The footballers look set to be staying at home next summer, England came within a whisker of winning the rugby World Cup and Lewis Hamilton just missed out on becoming Formula 1 champion. But don´t despair too much if you are English. The rugby team are heroes, they came from nowhere and almost pulled off one of the biggest upsets in World Cup history. Lewis Hamilton has proved that he has the necessary courage and skill to win the championship possibly next year. He also nearly pulled off a major up-set. Well as regards the footballers it is the same old story and until a decent coach can be found and some players put their country before their team England fans are going to continue to suffer. I hope that has raised those spirits! Returning again to the rugby it was fantastic to see the team spirit and also very refreshing that they did not attack the referee when the try was disallowed. This is exactly the right spirit and other sportspeople, especially some of those over-paid and underachieving soccer stars, should take note. Just last week in this space I was writing about a glorious Sunday....last Sunday was not so glorious although there are plenty of positives. English sport, apart from the notable exceptions is in good form. The Formula 1 and Rugby World Cup has given us plenty of enjoyment. So overall the future looks bright.

A reminder that this weekend the Royal British Legion is holding an opening day in Palmanova; please come along and support it. A very notable cause indeed and all the money raised goes direct to the Legion in Britain.
