Dear Editor

I HAVE been a regular visitor to Majorca for a number of years and was interested in the promotion and sale of Majorca as a holiday destination once again. Whilst it is plainly obvious that Majorca, as is many resorts through the tourist routes, there is considerable disparity in pricing in bars and shops and that is now pushing me away from the island.

Also, the hotels, my most recent stay in particular, need an overhaul of their star rating. I do not wish to name and shame but can confirm that the hotel I stayed in was allegedly a three star. My personal estimation based on the fact that I have not stayed anywhere other than three star, is that the hotel I endured in S'Arenal was substandard in its daily fare. Food was poor, little entertainment and a bar that only opened if the staff felt up to it? Is that what is now being sold by Majorcan tourist industry?

Yours faithfully

Dear Sir,

TOURISTS AND PORT OF POLLENSA
RECENTLY there have been letters regarding tourists coming to the island particularly to Port of Pollensa which used to be a magical little fishing village and has now become a depressed dilapidated area
The pavements disgusting with chewing gum, dog mess and the area particularly near the Chivas nightclub is so bad I don't think words can describe adequately the urinating and writing on the nearby shop fronts - surely something can be done! The car parking is very bad especially this year when many cafes have put their tables on the street using valuable parking spaces.
Then the planning department have allowed so many new buildings and shops which are now all lying vacant, creating an air of depression again is it not time to reject any more building applications.

Also in some urbanisations, owners are extending and for example filling in terraces with glass windows, erecting wooden sheds and therefore violating their escritura - this is no longer a Majorcan village.

Of course the graffiti is so unsightly and do they ever clean the bins which also take up parking spaces.
I now feel ashamed to live here and cannot recommend anyone to come here.

Yours faithfully
Audrey P Smyth
