Dear Sir,

It is to be hoped that the Balearic government takes notice of your poll indicating that over 80 per cent of readers are opposed to the foolish proposal to impose this tourist tax, which I believe will lead to a catastrophic fall in visitors to the island, as occurred 20 years ago when this tax was imposed and Britons deserted in droves the following year. The government hastily abolished the measure that has re-surfaced.

I noticed too your comments of a "quality tourism" being sought. This, in my view, would lead to even greater numbers of Britons seeking cheaper holidays.

Stick to the present state that has seen great prosperity envelop the people of Majorca.

Yours sincerely,
