On the last of my infrequent trips to the UK, I visited the Antony Gormely Art Exhibition at the Baltic Centre in Gateshead. While I was not particularly impressed by Mr Gormely's work, I was appalled to see the huge tracts of bare white walls in each of the several exhibition halls.

I was moved to leave the following comment: ‘Why was the wall space not given over for local artists to exhibit their work?' I am pleased to report that no such problem exists here on Majorca. There is a small café called Mamma's Place off Avenida de la Playa No 7 in Palma Nova which has given over its entire wall space to allow local artists to exhibit their work FREE OF CHARGE. At present the works of Sue Carmichael and Sue Hazeldine are on show.

It is so hard for an artist to gain recognition I can only applaud such a kind gesture on behalf of Becky Andrews the proprietor and can recommend a visit to look at the art and have a decent cup of real English tea and freshly made home cooked cakes and savouries.
