THURSDAY night in Palma; good music, good weather and a good time was had by all. But there was one thing missing; tourists. The San Sebastian night of live music is an event not to be missed but unfortunately holidaymakers are unaware that it is happening. Why? I simply don´t know. You would have thought that the Palma city council and the other local authorities would have done all they could to promote this night of music to anyone who would listen at the international trade fairs which they attend. And the celebrations don´t just last for one night; they got underway on Thursday and finish on Sunday night with a major firework display. An ideal weekend getaway package. Then you add everything else in the city, good restaurants and good shops and you have got a truly good offer. Why don´t the authorities make the airlines and tour firms aware that Palma is enjoying a long weekend of festivities?

Sometimes I think that our local authorities are just obsessed with sun and beach tourism between May and September. They are not really worried about anything else. I applaud the city council´s efforts to launch Palma as a 365 day holiday destination and hopefully next year the San Sebastian festivities will be included in the programme. Holidaymakers will come to the Balearics in the winter as long as there are flights, hotels are open and events are taking place. With a bit of promotion Palma could really prosper.
