Among those involved are the Mayor of New York Michael Bloomberg, the hotel heir Barron Hilton, CNN founder Ted Turner, fashion designer Diana von Furstenberg and Star Wars director George Lucas. The commitments will be to charities of the donors' own choice rather than to a single foundation. Critics asked how much of the pledge would be new money but Buffett said the idea would stimulate further giving from new donors.
