A record number of Spaniards are now living and working in London and they say that there is plenty of employment available. This seems quite amazing when you take into account that there are an estimated 2.5 million people unemployed in Britain and the figure continues to rise. One of the main reasons why Spaniards are leaving their home country and heading to Britain is because of the record unemployment rate in Spain.

There are five million people without a job hereand many of these people are under the age of 25. “I didn´t have any trouble in finding a job and the salary is higher than in Spain,” said one Spanish shop assistant at a London store. Many have said that they would like to return home when the employment situation improves. Literally hundreds of thousands of Spaniards have moved abroad because of the economic crisis with Britain and Germany proving exceptionally popular. A similar state of affairs occured in the 1950s. The Spanish government has said that it wants to tackle the unemployment situation but so far their attempts have proved unsuccessful. The exodus of Spanish youth looks set to continue while the country remains deep in recession. One thing which is positive for Spain is that once the economy starts growing again thousands of young people will return who have experienced working in other countries and have added new skills including being able to speak another language.
