...for Dame Judi Dench who was named “the greatest stage actor of all time” in a readers' poll organised by The Stage magazine. Now 76, Judi Dench began her career in 1957 as Ophelia in an Old Vic production of Hamlet and has won seven Olivier awards, a record. In 1966 she became the first actor to win both Best Actress and Best Actress in a Musical. In a separate assessment by The Stage editors Dench was named equal first with Laurence Olivier.
