Plans by former Wimbledon champion Boris Becker to transform a Majorcan estate into a luxury holiday-home have been double faulted by the Arta council. Mayor Montserrat Santandreu has ordered that building work be stopped until Boris Becker changes plans for his Majorcan home to bring them more in line with new planning legislation. The German tennis star is already furious with the council because he hoped that the house would be ready for a New Year Party. This latest delay will come as a severe blow and will effectively mean that the house will not be ready for many months. Four years ago Michael Douglas was fined $50'000 by the Valldemossa council for failing to abide by local planning laws. Becker bought the house about two years ago and had hoped to spend a considerable amount of time here. The local tourist industry had welcomed the announcement that the German was settling on the island because it felt that it would give the island plenty of publicity in Germany.
