Hollywood's golden couple have delivered the ultimate “snub” to Majorca...first they have splashed out on a 2.5 million pound holiday home in Bermuda and secondly they have agreed to promote the east coast British colony on top British travel show, Wish You Were Here, which is filming a special entitled Stars In Their Isles. The most obvious choice as the setting for this programme would have been Majorca as Douglas has been holidaying here for the past twenty years. Apart from his holiday home between Valldemossa and Deya he also owns the Costa Nord cultural centre in Valldemossa. His “defection” to Bermuda is unclear although his mother, Diana Dill, was born on the island. Their home is a rambling two storey property called Longford which was built in 1821. Wish You Were Here, has filmed on Majorca on numerous occasions but the programmes have never included Michael Douglas, considered the island's star asset. Bermuda Real estate agent Buddy Rego, who is handling the sale, confirmed Douglas had signed an agreement to buy the house but would not reveal the price. He said the couple, currently starring in the box office hit Traffic wanted a safe and secure environment for their five-month-old son Dylan. Douglas flew into the 22-square-mile island last week to sign the agreement to buy the house set on a 2.2-acre (0.88-hectare) estate. “He was totally attracted because it is totally Bermudian in character and that was a prerequisite when he called to purchase,” Rego told the local
