Spain's Environment Minister, Jaume Matas, announced yesterday that the Ministry for Development is prepared to fund the new access road to the Port of Soller and cover the costs of the new Palma hospital. Matas made the announcement during a summit meeting of all Majorca's Partido Popular mayors and councillors in Pollensa. He said that Madrid is prepared to invest a total of 2'500 million pesetas into the two projects. Former Balearic leader Matas said that new access road to the Port of Soller will enable the local authorities to finally pedestrianise the sea front. The president of the Balearic PP, Pere Rotger, used the meeting to highlight growing concerns about immigration and personal safety amongst the local population, adding that they are two key issues the PP is taking very seriously and that the Balearic government should be giving them more attention.
