Zeta Jones to perform in Majorca this summer

Catherine Zeta Jones is set to appear live on stage this summer in Majorca, but not in her capacity as one of Hollywood's highest paid actresses, but as a singer. The Welsh star, set to star in the new feature-film musical “Chicago,” is apparently trying to record an album around her busy movie schedule and will be appearing live at her husband Michael Douglas's Costa Nord Cultural Centre, which is preparing an all-star line up of musicians and performers for this coming summer. Apart from Zeta Jones, topping the bill will be Simply Red's Mick Hucknell, a one-time boyfriend of Zeta Jones when she was just a budding Welsh star. According to People News magazine, Catherine Zeta Jones is weighing up a number of offers from record companies, eager to sign the actress and release an album. But while always wanting to be an actress, it appears she would have settled for an equally successful musical career. In the early 1990*s she had two top 40 hits in the United Kingdom. One was a duet with the “Silver Dream Racer” David Essex. She has apparently teamed up with music producer Jeff Waynes who is extremely enthusiastic about Zeta Jones's potential as a singer. A record is to be released in the near future and is expected to contain 14 tracks including ballads, pop numbers and a number of cover versions. Last summer, she surprised the audience at Costa Nord by taking to the stage during one of the concerts and singing to the crowd - Michael Douglas was brought to tears. But to those close to Zeta Jones, a release of an album will come as no surprise. In the early 1990*s she sung with the English National Opera on a production of Streetscene. Her particular number was a “show stopping” song and dance number about a singer who wanted to make it on to Broadway. Well, she has not made it quite to Broadway yet, but Hollywood has not proven to be a bad alternative. Catherine Zeta Jones and Hucknell however will not be performing together and neither does it appear that Michael Douglas will be returning to the island and his Valldemossa estate this summer. For the moment, Douglas' movie schedule is far too tight. One of the current projects is a movie with his father Kirk. But we are not going to be short of seeing Catherine Zeta Jones this year. She has just been signed up to be the new face of cosmetic company Elizabeth Arden and readers of the Heat magazine in the United Kingdom recently voted her the tenth sexiest woman in the world.
