Mallorcan Paralympic swimmer Xavi Torres last night completed an amazing 24 hour non-stop swim to raise awareness for Cystic Fibrosis. Xavi, who has won gold medals at three consecutive Paralympic Games, was helped along by local swimmers, who took it in turns to swim alongside him in an adjacent lane, and by over 3'000 supporters who turned up to cheer him to the finish. The swim was a new World Record as Xavi, who has no hands or feet, became the first S5 Category swimmer in history to complete 24 hours non-stop. Xavi, who started the swim at 8pm on Friday night, was allowed just five minutes rest every hour and occasionally took drinks via a tube from an underwater swimmer with a plastic bottle.
