Staff Reporter THE special gala, For Love of Art, organised on the occasion of the opening of the Es Baluard modern and contemporary art museum, has brought a host of international stars such as Julio Iglesias and the Miami Sound Machine to Palma.

The gala will be shown live on Spanish Television (TVE1) and its international channel, from about 10.25pm.
It will last for nearly three hours and is one of the biggest events put on by Spanish Television in Majorca in the past ten years.
The gala will be presented by actress Carmen Maura, who appears in most of Pedro Almodovar's films, and singer Bertin Osborne, and they were on hand yesterday to announce details of the event. They were accompanied by the gala's director, Jordi Solanas, TVE programmes director Javier Montemayor, curator of the museum Teresa Pérez-Jofre and the singer Thalia, who will be performing in the show. In addition to Julio Iglesias and Miami Sound Machine, the gala will feature Chayanne, Thalia, Farruquito, Sergio Dalma, Chenoa and Manu Tenorio.
The mime trio El Tricicle have done six sketches, which were filmed at the Museum, in Porta Santa Catalina, and these will be shown as part of the show, to introduce the audience to the Museum. Pictures of Majorca will be flashed on the stage as a backcloth, and Pérez-Jofre explained that the gala was designed not just to present the museum but to project the islands' image abroad. Bertin Osborne said that he was delighted to return to the Auditorium, where he has performed to a packed house on more than one occasion.
Carmen Maura admitted to being a little nervous because the show was going out live.
Ten cameras will be used to televise the show and the stage will have cameras for lateral projections, to show the images of Majorca.
