BINISSALEM THE Works Committee at the factory of the household fittings company Buades has called a protest for this coming Tuesday to attempt to stop the Teka Group - owners of the production line - from closing the premises located in Binissalem. Company management and workers held a meeting yesterday to negotiate redundancy plans which were presented at the end of January. With Buades threatening insolvency due to debts of 44 million euros, 173 people stand to lose their jobs. The General Workers Union who are planning the fight against closure, will be organising the march from the centre of the town to the Council offices where protesters will speak with the Mayor. The Works Committee wants government involvement, specifically the Ministry for Industry to prevent the factory from closing down.
