Traders use street minstrels to liven up Christmas shopping

SHOPKEEPERS in Via Sindicato in Palma have hired Majorcan guitarists and singers to serenade Christmas shoppers in an effort to liven up seasonal trade.

The Via Sindicato Traders' Association said yesterday that the move for Christmas carols and seasonal music to be played at set times over the coming month comes as part of a concerted action plan to promote sales. The first performance will be at 6pm tonight at No. 1 Via Sindicato. The musicians will progress down the street to finish at 8pm. The concert will be repeated Fridays 11 and 18 from 6-8pm; Saturdays 5, 12 & 19 from 11.30am-1.30pm.
