Less new cars bought in the Balearics in 2011 l The total amount of tax contributed by people in the Balearics for the purchase of a new car fell by 7.6% in 2011 in comparison with figures for the previous year, the Inland Revenue said yesterday.

Tax paid to Central Government for 26'996 vehicles bought in the Balearics last year totalled 14'083'546 euros.
The Inland Revenue said that the average tax being paid per vehicle in the Islands amounted to 522 euros.
At a national level, the Inland Revenue raked in 483.92 million euros over the past year from new vehicle taxation, a steep decline of 24.5% in comparison with the 641.5 million collected in 2010.

The downturn says the Inland evenue, points to the current weakness of the car sales market.
