Palma.—Palma fire brigade held a special charity open day at its Son Malferit fire station yesterday in order to collect food items for the Mallorca Sense Fam (Majorca without hunger) charity.

During the day a host of activities were organised such as guided tours of the fire station as well as a series of displays by fire fighters to entertain the crowds.

There were also demonstrations of how their fire trucks and other equipment work and they staged an accident in which the driver remained trapped in the vehicle and showed how they cut the victim free.

During the day, an impressive 1'000 kilos of food items were donated to the fire fighters who will now pass all that on to the Majorcan Without Hunger charity.
