Palma.—The developers, Carrefour Property are planning to erect the new centre alongside their already existing hypermarket. The new project will cover 65'000 square metres of ground at a cost of around 120 million euros. According to a statement issued yesterday by Carrefour, the company will make the necessary applications to Palma City Hall so that building work can start as soon as possible. Opening is planned for the autumn of 2014. The statement from Carrefour Property claimed that the new commercial centre will be the largest on Majorca and will be built in a completely different architectural style to the hypermarkets the French company already has in Spain. Carrefour claims 12 million people use its centres every year.

The company says that the new development at Coll d'en Rabassa will be particularly convenient given its proximity to Palma airport and its ease of access.

A spokesman added that the project will provide 5'000 jobs, 1'500 of which will be engaged in the construction. The two-storey centre will have fashion shops, household material and food and drink outlets.
