Palma.—Majorca and Tenerife have been named as two of the top travel destinations for 2012.
The destinations were listed in the poll, conducted by guardian.co.uk as some of the top places visited this year.
Both locations have long been popular with holidaymakers for their sun, sea and clubs.
However the poll said it was the abundance of Olympic training facilities in the islands that had won them more visitors this year.
The results prove once more that Majorca is becoming one of the top summer destinations.
As well as normal travelmakers, booking up trips and ordering car hire to travel around the island, an article published by the sun.co.uk earlier this month found that the area is becoming just as popular with celebrities - with stars such as actor Michael Douglas owning a house here.

As well as finding the most popular destinations for this year, the poll also predicted the top destinations for 2013. Those that made it onto the list included Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia.

It also listed Cyprus as an upcoming hotspot, saying it was successfully turning its “tacky” image around.
The poll said: “Cyprus is turning its tacky package image around, with stylish new hotels including a purpose-built yoga hotel.”
