Palma.The Esquerra Unida, United Left, opposition party, yesterday branded the new fast rail link between Palma and Inca as a joke.
According to the party, the fast service, which only operates during the morning rush hour, has not arrived on time yet with average delays of between six and 13 minutes.
It appears that because the new fast trains are using the same tracks and the traditional trains, the high speed service is having to slow down to allow for the slower service and that is leading to the delays.
According to the party, the SFM Majorcan Railway Company has been totally irresponsible and has pulled the leg of the general public.
We all know that the ruling centre right Partido Popular prefer using their private cars as opposed to promoting the use of public transport and this latest move, the so-called express service has so far failed to live up to its name.
The United Left has called on SFM to rectify the situation and for the Minister for Transport and the Environment, Biel Company, to make sure that the new service operates on time, or commuters will lose interest in the new service which only stops at Marratxi as it runs between Palma and Inca.
