THE Capdepera area of Majorca was lashed by strong winds yesterday morning, with gusts reaching 98 kilometres per hour while in the Port of Pollensa gusts of up to 50 km/h were recorded. However, the wind was less intensive in the rest of Majorca. In Minorca winds reached 59 km/h before diminishing in intensity. In Serra de Alfabia 8 litres per square metre of rain fell, while in Palma they had 2 litres per square metre. However, in Lluc, Porreras and Ibiza airport the rain was lighter, no more than 1 litre per square metre. Temperatures stayed low yesterday with no great variations between day and night. The minimum temperature recorded in the airport was 4 degrees, in Porreres 6 degrees and in Porto Pi 7 degrees. For today, the National Institute of Meteorology (INM) predicted rain in the north east of the Peninsular, Catalunia and the Balearics and the arrival of a storm from Ireland in Galicia on the Kings Day (January 6). It is expected in the Balearics on Sunday. With it will come falls of snow at altitudes of 1'000 metres.
