MAJORCAN Railway Services (SFM) is looking at the possibility of building a branch line on the new Manacor to Arta train route to drop down into the coastal resort of Porto Cristo and back (see graph).

Bernat Amer, Planning Councillor at Manacor Town Hall confirmed yesterday that SFM had presented plans which envisage two possible routes linking Son Carrió in the municipality of Sant Llorenç with Porto Cristo. However Transport Director, Antoni Contesti added that the project was currently “under study” and if approved would not be built until the term of office of the next Balearic government.

Amer said that people living in Porto Cristo are very glad about the idea of a rail link. He claimed that it is something that other towns in the municipality of Manacor have also been calling for over a long period of time.

Because the Son Carrió to Porto Cristo link will be part of the train-tram service, new mechanical workshops will be built at Son Carrió station to service the rolling stock.
