PALMA

PROPRIETORS of bars, cafeterias and restaurants along the Tuesday night “pub crawl” route in the central Palma district of Sa Gerreria, are taking measures to help the local residents get a decent night's sleep.

In a combined effort which they hope will stop the Canamunt Residents' Association from taking their grievances about late night revelling to court, the proprietors along the route are proposing to shut their doors at 1am with last orders at 12.30am.

Furthermore, from the 26th January, the “pub crawl” will be spread out over both Tuesday and Wednesday of the week “so that clients don't crowd out the route all at the same time,” said Malachy Kerrogan, owner of the Cala Seu restaurant.

He also said that individual proprietors were putting up notices in their estalishments asking people to be quiet when they leave the premises or if they go outside to smoke.

Despite the attempt at a truce, the Residents' Association says that in reality, the proprietors won't have control over the number of people that go on the “pub crawl” or over the amount of noise they make.

The City Council is working to find a solution. Planning councillors Bartomeu Tugores and Yolanda Garvi met with the Residents' Association yesterday.
