NEWSDESK THIS Autumn's torrential rains which caused a series of land slides in the Tramuntana mountains have converted Majorca into a natural laboratory. According to the Spanish Geological and Mining Institute, such a large number of natural phenomena was caused by the adverse weather that scores of geologists have come to Majorca from all over the country to examine the damage caused and the torrential rains.

The Institute hopes to be able to collect enough data in Majorca to be able to improve its mountain risk assessment and warning programme.
