T HE dual carriageway planned between Inca and Sa Pobla has had government authorisation to be put out to tender. It will take 20 months to build at a cost of 56 million euros. Regional government spokesman, Joan Flaquer confirmed yesterday that at the request of the Islands' Public Works ministry, the government gave authorisation yesterday for the construction works for “The Widening of the C-713 Highway; the section between Inca and Sa Pobla” to put out to public tender. The stretch of road starts from the Inca ringroad, currently under construction, and has its finishing point in the current link roundabout for Pollensa and Sa Pobla. Flaquer, insisted that this highway development forms part of the Balearic government's road building policy, committed to restructuring and improving safety. Two weeks ago today, 30'000 people demonstrated in Palma against the government plans which many see as irretrievably destroying unspoilt land and dividing communities.
