The latest figures from the Ministry for Tourism Industry and Energy in Madrid indicate that foreign tourism spending rose by 3.7 percent in the Balearics last month.

According to the report published yesterday, foreign visitors to the region spent 98 million euros and that the average expenditure per tourist was 1.131 euros, the highest in Spain and 34.4 percent higher than in January 2010.

What is more, the Ministry also claims that the daily expenditure rose by 0.3 percent to 91 euros.
However, it has been the German market which has dominated winter tourism in the Balearics with the British preferring warmer climes or winter sports.
