Alcudia/Pollensa.—Over the past few days both the north east of Majorca, in particular the Bay of Alcudia, and Minorca have been hit by gale force winds which caused widespread damage.

Alcudia resident Malcolm Williams said: “The swell built up by strong winds at sea arrived in Bahia d'Alcudia with destructive force on Tuesday night. The wooden jetty near the Hotel Paraiso was battered by waves up to two metres and spread along the beach towards the port. “These jetties are used as pick-up and drop-off points for the excursion boats that carry countless tourists around the bay, from the port to Formentor and several points in between.

Sand has completely closed the canal where the lake at Bellevue empties to the sea.
During the season the local authority does an amazing job of keeping the beach clean and it's certain that the thousands of summer holidaymakers would find the area almost unrecognizable in it's current state.

Alcudia residents are confident however, that all will be well for the 1st of May.” It was Minorca which suffered the worst of the gales yesterday with heavy seas disrupting sea connections.
However, the good news is that conditions have calmed and the next few days are forecast to be ‘Spring like' according to the meteorological office.
