THE Balearic Government will today meet the German tour operators TUI, Rewe-Its, Thomas Cook and Alltours at the inaugural day of the International Tourism Fair in Berlin (ITB). Tomorrow the leader of the Balearic Government, Jaume Matas, will take part in the promotion of the Majorca Classic Golf Tournament 2006 with the Russian tennis player, Anna Kournikova. The tournament will take place from October 19 to 22 at Pula Golf. Government sources said that the first meeting for the Balearic delegation in the ITB will be with the four principal German tour operators. The Balearic Ministry of Tourism, headed by Joan Flaquer, will suggest new business possibilities for the coming season. This afternoon the Council of Ibiza and Formentera will make a presentation of the Palacio de Congresos on Ibiza and of their cycling tourism website, with the aim of promoting this rural and ecological tourism sector in their islands. Tomorrow, Balearic Day, Matas will make his inaugural speech and present the Majorca Classic tournament with Anna Kournikova, chosen as the promotional face of the autonomous region for the 2006 ITB. This was a choice much criticised by the opposition who considered her a mediocre choice.
